When asked about the inspiration behind this song, Cherise said "The 'Police in the Hills' melody found me while I was driving home after a long day at work. The wailing of the approaching police siren as I approached a traffic light near the San Fernando Hill inspired the song. The partially mumbled voice note then became a full song on the morning of my recording session in Jamaica a few months later. In developing the song lyrically, I decided to highlight the ongoing issue of Police brutality where our black men and women are targets in an attempt to create greater awareness as well as inspire conversation and remedial action around this issue."
Police in the Hills features renowned musicians hailing from Jamaica such as percussionist Bongo Herman and saxophonist Dean Fraser to name a few.
